Kurt Baptiste appeal closes today

first_imgThe bank account opened at the beginning of this month to assist PNG LNG Kumul Kurt Baptiste will close today. Apart from the K10,000 donation by Sir Peter Ipatas, there have been a few small donations deposited in the account. PNGRFL chief executive officer Reatau Rau said any amount – big or small – is greatly appreciated. Baptiste suffered a season ending knee injury in the second half of the PNG LNG Kumuls loss to Toa Samoa in the Oceania Cup Pacific Test opener in Sydney in June. Rau said: “The injury has ruled Kurt (Baptiste) out of playing rugby league for his NRL club North Queensland Cowboys and the PNG LNG Kumuls for the next 12 months. “The players are insured and all claims will mainly be for costs related to the injury. “Our concern is his welfare. He risked his NRL contract when he chose to play for PNG and the injury happened while he had the Kumul jersey on. As a nation, we are obliged to show our appreciation and support so he can get through this difficult period.” Rau said there were many who supported the idea through social media before the account was opened. “Those who pledged and supported Kurt through the social media can please deposit their monies into this account,” Rau said. He said the account details are: NAME: PNGRFL Inc. Trust Account for Kurt Baptiste, BSP ACCOUNT No: 7017301099, BRANCH: Port Moresby, BSB NO. 088 294, SWIFT CODE: BOSPPGPM and every Kina or two deposited will be shown on the statement. Rau said the account will be closed today and every single toea sent to Kurt Baptiste with a ‘Note of Appreciation’ from a grateful nation. “The SP Hunters are travelling to play the Blackhawks this weekend in Townsville therefore it is an opportune time for Coach Michael Marum and the team to visit and present the monies to Kurt,” Rau said. “Please let’s help our Kumul Kurt Baptiste on his road to recovery.”last_img
