DUAL-SPORT STANDOUT TO JOIN BLUES BASKETBALL, GOLF TEAMS IN 2019

The University of Toronto women’s basketball and golf programs are pleased to announce that Sara Cumby has signed a letter of intent and committed to the Varsity Blues beginning in the 2019-20 season. Story Links “I chose U of T because it gives me the opportunity to play both golf and basketball along with having the academic program I am interested in,” said Cumby. “I am looking forward to playing both sports I love at the university level and am thankful to have this opportunity.” Students who sign a letter of intent and/or commit to Varsity Blues intercollegiate teams will be eligible to play at the University of Toronto provided they are academically admissible and have applied through the normal process with the Ontario Universities Application Centre. “Sara will be the first dual-sport athlete to be on our team,” said Varsity Blues women’s basketball head coach Michèle Bélanger. “Sara brings a wealth of experience in training, focus and a high level of compete in all she does.   Sara will help our program grow and we believe her dedication to training and hard work will be contagious.” A 5-foot-6 guard from Canaan, N.S., Cumby joins the Blues from Horton High School. There she was named the 2017-18 most valuable player in the Division 1 girl’s basketball league, while also competing for the Junior Axewomen in the Metro Basketball Association. Cumby was twice named the most valuable player on the senior golf team and competed at the Canadian junior championship from 2016-18.
